What is Caprese?
Caprese, or Insalata Caprese, is an Italian salad that originates from the island of Capri. Its main ingredients are fresh tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, fresh basil, olive oil, and salt. The salad is renowned for its simplicity, allowing the freshness of the ingredients to shine through.
Ingredients
- Fresh ripe tomatoes
- Buffalo mozzarella or fresh cow's milk mozzarella
- Fresh basil leaves
- Extra virgin olive oil
- Sea salt and freshly cracked black pepper

How to Prepare Caprese Salad
Ingredients:
- 4 medium ripe tomatoes
- 250 grams of fresh mozzarella
- Fresh basil leaves
- 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
- Salt and freshly cracked black pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Wash the tomatoes and basil leaves. Slice the tomatoes into round slices, about 1/4-inch thick.
- Slice the mozzarella into similar-sized rounds.
- On a serving platter, alternate layers of tomato slice, mozzarella slice, and basil leaves. Repeat until all ingredients are used.
- Drizzle the salad with olive oil and season with salt and black pepper to taste.
